Anyone who knows cottage country also knows about the negative impact of over-development on lake-water quality and habitat destruction.  The Ministry of Natural resources is a vital stakeholder in the Elliot Lake waterfront development project.  Its interests are to protect the environmental quality of the ten lakes under development within the City of Elliot Lake, and to ensure that the lake environment is maintained at the highest levels throughout the course of the project’s development. 

Elliot Lake is the only community that we know of that has science-based Lake Management plans in place, which define the fixed limits of development before any development is allowed to take place. 

Cottaging in Elliot Lake is rooted in the belief that the environment must be protected as a matter of priority, in order to protect the quality of life for all of its citizens well into the future.
