Popeye Lake Overview

Popeye Lake, located about 15 km north of Elliot Lake, is a relatively small, shallow lake measuring about 2 miles in length by about half a mile in width.  The shores of Popeye are comprised mostly of rocky slopes representative of the Canadian Shield, but there are also areas of sandy or silt backshore, which slope gently north toward Stanrock road.  The vegetation, which has been thinned by past logging operations in the area, consists mainly of White Birch, Sugar Maple, Cedar, and Red Oak.  The lake itself is home to Whitefish, Walleye, and burbot, among other species of fish.

Because of the small size of the lake, only 18 lots have been slated for development.  All of these lots are located on the more gently sloped northern shore of the lake, facing the undeveloped wilderness on the southern shore.  These south-facing lots are accessible via Stanrock road, which also leads to Quirke Lake, just north of Popeye.  All lots will have electricity via power line or submarine cable, and a boat launch will be provided.  The Lake Shore Properties' development team is working closely with the various government agencies to have Popeye Lake designated a “quiet lake”.  This means that no motorized vehicles will be allowed on the lake.
